About Us

History

The SK community outreach is led by men who have a lived experience of homelessness, addiction and living on the streets and the social stigma and  exclusion that accompanies those unfortunate enough to find themselves in this situation.

We have a shared commitment to helping other men to recover from similar situations

The founder Solomon Kilanga, was once homeless, addicted and living in the streets until someone helped him turn his life around.

His story

After over two decades of involvement in rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of other homeless men back into society, we have developed a network of champions for the cause and we are now working to establish community recovery hubs led by these champions in their localities to expand our mission.

Our aim is to empower communities that can rescue and rehabilitate their own.

An empowered community can impact generations

The Challenge

Addiction, homelessness, depression and family breakdown continue to affect thousands of Kenyans, especially among the more vulnerable and underserved populations of our society.

Traditional rehabilitation centres are important, but expensive and limited in capacity.

Most people in crisis, especially from the marginalized and  underserved communities will never reach these rehabilitation centres.

Therefore communities need local structures that can identify, support and restore vulnerable individuals before they reach a crisis point.

Our main challenge is the lack of coordinated support systems dedicated to Men’s mental health and that is what we aim to grow

Our approach

Our Observation

These behaviours are rarely about the substance, it is often about the pain underneath. The pain of Trauma, Rejection,Failure, Loss and Hopelessness among other pains.Men refuse to speak out on these underlying issues as they usually lack support systems Society tells them to be strong, men don't cry That is why we create safe spaces where men can come as they are and receive peer support from other men without judgement, encouraging men to speak up on the real issues they face and heal

Our Vision

Rescue

Identifying and engaging vulnerable individuals.- Our community champions reach out to them wherever they are, in the bars, on the streets and invite them to our sessions.

Recovery

Supporting rehabilitation and healing – through our talk sessions, skills training and counselling sessions we help them out of their destructive habits and into sobriety and restoration.

Reintegration

Helping people reconnect with families and communities.- When the individuals are healed,we help them reintegrate back into their families

Prevention

Education, mentorship, and community awareness – We educate by holding talks in schools, churches and among the community aimed at equipping the community to become the first responders to these problems.
